Tell us about your career path and how you got to where you are today.
I started at Pacific Life Re in 2020 as the Office Manager in Singapore. Because of my passion for all things equality and equity, I joined our local burgeoning Asia Diversity and Inclusion Committee that had been recently formed and took over as chairperson shortly after. I was then given the opportunity to expand my role to become the Diversity & Inclusion Manager for Asia which I was brilliant as it enabled to work towards embedding deeper diversity and inclusion initiatives in the company. So I now balance my work as the local office manager along with driving impactful change from a diversity, equality and inclusion standpoint across the region.
What are the biggest challenges of your role today?
My biggest challenges have been recognising that there are many aspects to diversity and inclusion, and that we can’t hit all areas all at once. Also I’ve learnt to prioritise and work with a variety of internal stakeholders to drive these initiatives in a consistent and meaningful way.
What’s the best thing about working here?
I love that I can be my true authentic self – I haven’t had to worry about hiding my queer identity, nor the fact that I struggled with mental health issues. I have only experienced compassion and support from my managers and colleagues.
Are you involved in any of Pacific Life Re’s committees or networks? If so what do you do?
After chairing the Asia Diversity and Inclusion Committee since 2020 I’ve now stepped down to allow more voices to be heard. However, I have assumed a co-chair position of the Australasia Pacific Pride (LGBTQIA+) network since its inception in 2023. In addition, I support the Asia chapter of the Women and Allies Network.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I’m grateful that I’m able to have some work life balance to pursue my fitness goals! My motto recently has been “Gym is Life” so you can find me at a strength and conditioning gym getting fit, or hanging out with my bestie, Nacho (he’s my dog).
