Pacific Life Re has its headquarters in Bermuda and we’re able to provide great opportunities to people starting out in their careers. But don’t just take our word for it.  Here’s what Jordan and Sophia have to say about being an intern with us.

"I’ve been interested in becoming an actuary for quite a few years now and in 2022 I was delighted to be given the opportunity to become an intern with Pacific Life Re. During that time I was introduced to the inner workings of life reinsurance and learned many industry concepts and terms. I was also encouraged to develop new data analysis and problem-solving skills. I’ve now returned this summer to continue learning and growing my skills as an actuary.

I grew up in Bermuda, attending Warwick Academy. Then I went to Kingston University, London for my undergraduate degree in Economics and I’m now planning on taking a master’s degree in actuarial science in the UK, after my internship.

The PL Re team is great—we work hard but have fun together too. Everyone is so friendly and willing to spend time with me to help build my understanding and knowledge. And we're located in a beautiful new building called Point House, so the views are great too!

I’ve really valued the opportunity to work at a reinsurer to get some real-life experience and feel very lucky to have worked in such a great business."

"In the summer of 2020, I was an intern at Pacific Life Re and had the opportunity to collaborate with actuarial teams in the Bermuda office and overseas. I analyzed risk and data and assisted in building mathematical models to predict future events. My Excel skills improved from this experience, and I also learned how to work with Tyche model software and gained some experience with SQL programming language. As this was my first summer internship, I also had the opportunity to learn about Solvency II and the BMA’s role in the (re)insurance industry, which was valuable as a first-year intern.

I really enjoyed my time at PL Re. Along with the valuable knowledge and skills I gained through the summer internship, I also felt very comfortable and included in the team and I enjoyed the culture. My mentor Nick Grover provided exceptional coaching, guidance and support which I am very grateful for. Everyone was extremely friendly and open to help me and answer my questions. Overall, it was a great experience and I learned so much."
