Darren Spriggs
Managing Director

Darren leads the European Business Unit and has been in the company since May 2016.  Prior to joining Pacific Life Re, Darren held leading roles at both insurers and intermediaries, which now combined with his reinsurance experience, gives him a unique understanding of the insurance value chain.

James Tait
Head of Protection

James has been a significant contributor in building and maintaining our strong market share, reputation and presence in the UK & Ireland Protection market.  He is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of UnderwriteMe, a member of our Senior Leadership Team and is heavily involved in a number of industry bodies, most notably chairing the CMI’s Executive Committee.

Andy McAleese
Head of Longevity

Andy is responsible for new business development for our longevity reinsurance business.  He joined the company in 2005 and led the development of our longevity reinsurance product in 2007 and its subsequent growth, covering over £20bn of pension and annuity liabilities.

Carl Padget

Carl Padget
Head of Underwriting & Claims

Carl joined us in February 2009 as a Senior Underwriter, progressing to Underwriting Manager before being appointed as Head of Underwriting and Claims for our Europe business in 2016.  He is responsible for the strategy and philosophy of the team and is Chairperson of the AMUS Council, as well as being on the LUCID committee and the ABI GDPR Working Party.

Hamish Wilson
Head of Research & Development

As Head of R&D for the European business, Hamish is responsible for a range of outcomes, including setting Terms of Trade; providing our best estimate view on mortality, morbidity, longevity and persistency assumptions to support pricing new business and quantifying insurance risk (setting assumptions and methodology for our internal capital model).

Phill Beach
Head of Pricing

Phill is responsible for leading our Europe Pricing Team.  He oversees the pricing of our longevity, mortality and morbidity risks.  Phill joined us in 2017 and has extensive experience in leading teams in the Bulk Annuities, Retail Annuities and Retail Protection markets.

Gráinne Hampson
Head of Actuarial Reporting

Gráinne joined the company in February 2009 and is responsible for the accurate financial reporting of the inforce business in Europe, specifically the calculation and communication of quarterly USGAAP, Solvency II and Economic Capital results.  Gráinne works with other teams including Pricing, Marketing and Operations to ensure effective management of inforce business; such as new treaty implementations, data cleanses, new product initiatives and treaty restructures.

Andrew Murphy
Head of Longevity Inforce & Origination

Andrew is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Longevity back-book as well as supporting new business activities.  He joined us in 2012 and has over 10 years' industry experience.  Having previously worked at Lucida in their bulk annuity pricing team and at Punter Southall as a pensions actuary, Andrew has a wealth of knowledge and proven expertise in the Longevity market.

“My focus is on delivering solutions that fully meet clients’ needs but are also as simple as possible structurally, have straightforward legal documentation and are quick to execute.”

Edward Mathison
Director, Legal Counsel

Edward provides legal advice and support to the Europe business. He assists with the negotiation of business contracts on our Longevity and Protection business, identifying legal and regulatory developments affecting the business and advising on corporate governance issues.

Yvonne Taylor
Director, Risk Management

Yvonne brings many years of experience from insurance, pensions and consulting, to her role at Pacific Life Re.  She is responsible for risk management in our Europe business.  She manages Europe’s Own Risk and Solvency Assessment and oversees our economic capital quarterly reporting processes.  She is the Chair of Europe’s Risk Management Committee.
